BPI bitumen-polymer tape

Cold-applied tape that protects buried steel pipelines from corrosion. The plastic mastic closes small coating damage by itself.

How the coating is built

  • Backing tapenot less than 0.40 mm
  • Bitumen-polymer mastic1.1 ± 0.1 mm
  • Primereven layer
  • Pipe steelsubstrate

Advantages

  • Does not need a high grade of surface preparation.
  • Compatible with all coating types used on pipelines.
  • An all-season material.
  • Simple to apply, by hand or by device.
  • The plastic mastic fills surface irregularities, including weld zones.
  • Self-healing of small coating defects.

Standards

The tape is used in coating structure No. 5 of GOST 9.602 (underground structures, general requirements for corrosion protection) and in structures Nos. 18 and 21 of STB GOST R 51164 (steel trunk pipelines, general requirements for corrosion protection). It conforms to EN 12068, the standard for tapes and shrinkable materials on buried steel pipelines with cathodic protection.

Questions and answers

Does the tape need heating?

No, it is a cold-applied tape. When laid by hand on joints and fittings, light fusing of the mastic layer is permitted.

What is different about the 2.0 mm tape?

Its mastic layer is 1.6 ± 0.1 mm instead of 1.1 ± 0.1 mm. It is intended for city networks.

Is there a European certificate?

Yes, a certificate of conformity to EN 12068-C 30 for BPI tape. It can be opened on this page.
